There is no sign-up and you are never asked for personal details: no account, email or phone number, no cookies, no third-party analytics, ads or services, and the page loads no fonts, scripts, images or sounds from other sites. Below is everything this site actually keeps. The one exception is the support-box checkout link, which only opens if you click it (see below).
In your browser (localStorage)
p5lang: the language you picked by hand (once picked, it is always used). If you never picked one, your browser's language preferences are matched in order to Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese or English, and anything else gets English.p5bows: how many bows you have made this round (0–108), so a refresh does not reset it.p5beads: how many prayer beads you have counted.- These three stay on your device. When you come in, the bow and bead counts are sent to the server so this visit carries on counting; the server drops them when you leave. Clearing this site's data removes them all.
On the server, while you are connected
- A connection number (counted up from 1 since the server started), your randomly given nickname (two word-list numbers), your position, facing and pose in the hall, your bow and bead counts, and the cool-down timers that stop spamming.
- All of this is dropped when you disconnect. The site program itself does not read or store your IP address (for the web server's access log, see "Logs" below).
On the server's disk
- A state file,
temple-state.json. It holds the lamps and incense still burning in each hall (position, the lighter's random nickname at the time, and when it goes out) and the temple-wide bow total (a single number). - Lamps go out after 30 minutes and incense after 15; expired entries are deleted at the next save. The file holds no connection number, IP or browser details.
- There is also one totals file per day (JSON and CSV, see "Counters"). It holds only numbers: no connection number, IP, cookie or browser details.
Counters
/health shows totals only: visitors online; visitors, lamps and incense per hall; the bow total, messages and bytes sent, memory and CPU. Nothing is recorded per person.- Apart from the server access log, the site keeps only totals without IP addresses: per day, how many visits came from each
?ref= source (only 1–24 letters and digits are accepted; anything else counts as "other") and in each page language, the total and spread of time spent connected, and how many bows, sets of three bows, incense sticks, lamps, fortune draws, support-box openings and support-choice clicks there were. These numbers use no cookies, cannot be traced to anyone, and stay on the server; they are not published.
Logs
- The program writes one line when it starts and one when it stops (port, settings, bow total), plus a line if reading or writing a file fails. It does not log visitors.
- The web server's access log (nginx) records visitors' IP addresses, the time, the address visited, the referring page and the browser string. It is used only to fix problems and to build traffic reports; the log and the reports made from it stay on the server and are deleted after 30 days.
The support box (an outside checkout page)
- On the right side of the hall there is a support box. Tapping it opens a small panel with 1, 3 or 5 packs, and each choice is just a plain link to a Lemon Squeezy checkout page for a digital download, "One Lamp · Temple108 Supporter": a hall wallpaper and a Heart Sutra card, US$1 a pack. The money helps pay for running the website and the server.
- It opens only if you click it. This site does not embed any of their scripts and does not know whether you bought anything or how many.
- The email and payment details you enter at checkout are handled by Lemon Squeezy as the merchant of record, under their own privacy policy: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.
- Until the checkout links are set up, the three choices are greyed out and go nowhere.
Also
- There is no chat and no private messages. Others see only your nickname, position and pose.
- Sounds are synthesised in your browser. The microphone is never used.
- The "Source" links on a fortune slip go to third-party sites. They open only if you click them, and that site's own rules apply there.
